How Much Do You Know About God’s Disposition?

Dear Sister Xinyi,

Hello! Through our last fellowship I have gained a lot. Recently, I have got some different understandings through studying the Bible. So I’m writing to commune with you about them.

I remember that during our last communication, when talking about the topic of what dispositions God has we can know from the Lord Jesus’ preaching and working, we saw the Bible say, “Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus said to him, I say not to you, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven” (Mat 18:21-22), “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like to it, You shall love your neighbor as yourself” (Mat 22:37-39), and “You have heard that it has been said, You shall love your neighbor, and hate your enemy. But I say to you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which spitefully use you, and persecute you; That you may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he makes his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust” (Mat 5:43-45). After communicating I have understood that the Lord Jesus bestowed plentiful graces and blessings upon man, taught man to be tolerant and patient, and healed man’s illness and drove out the devils within them, in which the disposition God expressed was compassion and love.

In the fall of 2002, Sister Zhao from my denomination, the Church of Truth, brought her niece, Sister Wang, to my home to tell me some great news that the Lord has come back. After a few days of reading the words of Almighty God and listening to the sister’s detailed fellowship, I understood that from the creation of the world until now God has performed three stages of work in order to save mankind. Other truths that I also came to know were God’s adoption of a different name during each stage of the work, the significance of God’s name for each age, and the mystery of God’s incarnation, etc. These truths really allowed me to open my eyes wide and see my fill. I said to myself: “It all sounds crystal clear, and Almighty God very probably is the returned Lord Jesus so I’d better make sure I grasp this chance and read more of Almighty God’s words.”

All that is related to the work of His management is done by His hand,

The sun set in the evening, enveloping the entire city in an orange glow, and a cool breeze suffused the room. I sat by the window reading the Bible. The Bible says, “Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God” (Genesis 6:9). Noah was called a righteous and perfect man by God, which is always thought-provoking: God asked Noah to build the ark. However God wanted it to be made, he did exactly as God asked. Noah was a person who followed God’s will. But, thinking back on my years spent believing in the Lord, I keep His name and way, cast off everything to spread the gospel to testify the Lord and work hard to shepherd the church.

I, who have believed in God for many years, had always thought that those who believed in God’s existence, could follow God and often pray to Him for keeping them from all calamities, could receive His grace, and moreover, were able to preach the gospel and bear witness to Him—these were people who truly believed in God. However, I found recently that whenever encountering difficulties and adversities, I would have no faith in God, and even be full of misunderstanding and blame toward Him within. For instance, when I was ill yet God didn’t remove my illness because of my prayer, my faith in Him would become ever weaker, until in the end I was even unwilling to pray; when encountering various hardships and frustrations in life, I often complained about God in my heart and thought that He should keep my family peaceful and not allow these unpleasant things to come upon me since I went to meetings regularly, and prayed and read the Bible every day. And so, time after time, I was full of misunderstandings and complaints toward God. Not until then did I begin to examine myself: Am I a true Christian? Acting in this way, am I believing in God?

      In the past, I particularly liked reading the parable of the lost sheep told by the Lord Jesus. He said: “How think you? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, does he not leave the ninety and nine, and goes into the mountains, and seeks that which is gone astray? And if so be that he find it, truly I say to you, he rejoices more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish” (Matthew 18:12-14). Every time I read this passage, I was especially moved within and I thought that the Lord Jesus’ love for mankind was so great. God wouldn’t forsake any of His sheep as long as it was His. But I didn’t understand the Lord Jesus’ words: “Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish,” nor could I comprehend God’s will behind His words. It wasn’t until I read God’s words afterward that I had a deep understanding of the Lord Jesus’ intention in saying the words.
